Episode 879 Everything up until now is food
Welcome back to the I Am Anime website
Once the delivery begins, my days are spent revising the drawings and giving instructions for retakes. As we have mentioned repeatedly, at Millepensee, we are currently producing our products in-house, using our own staff, rather than outsourcing (outsourcing or freelancing). Therefore, if the production instructions, drawings, art, etc. are poorly done, I will of course have to retake them and eventually fix them myself. At that time, in order to explain to the staff, “What’s wrong?” and “How should we fix it?”, I used the content of the guidance I received from the telecom animation film that I worked on from the age of 20 to 26, and the guidance I received after that. Even the experience of working with famous directors and famous animators that I met at the various studios (companies) I went to after becoming a freelancer—all of that served as “food” for me, and thanks to them, I am now the person I am today. I feel like I’m eating well.
Not only in telecom, but also in my free-lance life after that, I consciously selected and participated in “works in which skilled people were involved” and tried to steal as many “tricks” for working smartly and efficiently as possible. I was running around. These efforts are now bearing fruit in the guidance of young people.
However, there was a time when I was able to enjoy working as a freelancer at a studio far away, and I think I was really happy, but I think it would be better for young animators today to be tied up by companies as employees or on a fixed salary. I recommend it. The reason for this is that these days, when digital animation is becoming more and more mainstream, it is better to work in collaboration with a production company so that changes can be made to the production system, and information about new tools will automatically come in. from.
Even so, I think it’s fine if there are still people who are stubborn about not wanting to be surrounded by companies, saying things like, “Animators should basically be freelancers!” and “Please don’t take away our ‘freedom’!” . It’s different for each person.
However, it is good to remember that
In the Reiwa world, the world of Reiwa is “anime creators who can create anime works by themselves”, from anime staff who “can only do…” such as “I can only draw original drawings”, “I can only draw storyboards”, and “I can only put in rough production instructions fluently”. The world recognizes these people as “talented people who can move pictures”!
That’s what it means. Not only are short animations created by one person uploaded one after another on a certain video site, but celebrities from all over the world are also becoming freelancers and doing things like comedy, cooking, and singing with their own performances. The fact that I started posting videos is proof of that. However, even though the animators call themselves freelance, they can’t even create entertainment or move a single image unless they receive an order from a company… That’s why I encourage my staff to take an interest in various sections.
As long as I know what I’m interested in, I’ll try to teach them anything that interests me, such as scripts, storyboards, directing, original drawings, backgrounds, sound, and editing! For the last two or three films, I have also been providing guidance to the “directors”!
and. At the very least, even if you can’t make videos by yourself, if you are interested in the overall video production process, you might be able to become a “creator” at some point!
That’s why I’m co-directing the next film, Okitsura, which is currently in production, under the care of another director!
