The story of the anime Yurei Deco Yurei Deco is set in the Internet city of Tom Sawyer, where society revolves around earning "love", like receiving likes on social media. Citizens of this augmented reality share a love for public services and appearance-altering avatars via a decoration customizer, also known as a “deco,” a hologram device that has been implanted into an individual’s eyes since early childhood. Under the careful management of the government, the people of Tom Sawyer live a peaceful life, far from the accidental appearance of Phantom Zero, a mysterious criminal who takes away all the love in his neighborhood.

Perry, a mischievous girl who is fascinated by Phantom Zero, lives comfortably in Tom Sawyer's system until Deco crashes, enabling her to spot a camouflaged prankster named Hack. Believing Huck to be Phantom Zero, he pursues the suspect, and in the process begins to uncover society's most well-kept secrets. As it turns out, Hack isn't the only person who lives outside the rules of order and Tom Sawyer's vibrant colors hide an even darker nature.
