[New Bungeiza x Anime Style vol.190] Hirata Toshio’s gem of animation
Welcome back to the I Am Anime website
In June, the new Bungeiza x I am Anime will be screened with “Grimm’s Fairy Tales: Golden Bird” and “Bobby, the late director, directed by Hirata Toshio. Both works are masterpieces that are worthy of the word “gold” and are packed with the charm of animation.
“Grimm’s Fairy Tale: Golden Bird” (1987) is a theatrical animation released as a film from the “Toei Manga Festival.” Carefree characters, pop character designs, and background art that resembles a single page from a picture book. It’s a fun work, both in terms of drama and video.
“Bobby Killed” (1985) is a theatrical animation based on the novel of the same name by Kataoka Yoshio. This is an empirical work that uses a variety of techniques, including photo collages and background videos using line art. It is also a youth drama with a rich atmosphere from the 1980s, and it is also an attractive film in that sense.
The guest on the talk is producer Maruyama Masao, who worked on both works. I would like you to talk about the film, director Hirata Toshio, and other creators who participated.
Tickets will be on sale from Saturday, June 21st. Please check the Shinbungeiza website for information on how to purchase tickets.
